Train and grain town, hail country
Roofing in Saginaw, TX gets a lot of attention after hail, and there is history behind that. On March 28, 2000, the storms that produced the downtown Fort Worth tornado also dropped hail that the National Weather Service says severely damaged roofs and cars in Lake Worth and Saginaw.
Saginaw itself grew up on the rail line north of Fort Worth. The city's own history describes settlers arriving in 1848, the railroad making Saginaw a stop on routes into Fort Worth, and the "train and grain" heritage that followed. It incorporated in 1949 and today is a home rule city in Tarrant County.
When a storm passes, expect two kinds of visitors: the roofers you call and the ones who come knocking. Saginaw has rules for the second group, covered below. DFW Expert Roofers belongs to neither. It is a free number: an automated assistant picks up, learns what happened, and puts you through to an independent, locally owned roofing company that serves Saginaw.

When a roofer knocks on a Saginaw door
Saginaw licenses door-to-door selling. These are the city's own conditions, and they give you an easy first check.
A city badge
Solicitors must hold a Saginaw solicitation permit and wear the permit badge. Ask to see it. No badge is a reason to close the door.
Set hours
Soliciting is allowed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. April through October, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. November through March. A knock outside those hours breaks the city's rules.
Signs mean no
Permit holders must respect No Soliciting signs and stay out of the roadway and medians. The city says breaking the rules can cost a solicitor the license.
Who to ask
The City Secretary's Office handles solicitation permits and questions about them. Call the city if a knocker's badge or story does not add up.
Look the roofer up before you sign
A badge only means someone may knock. It says nothing about roofing. For that, Saginaw offers a second tool: a published Registered Contractor List with a roofing category, kept by the city alongside its contractor registration forms.
- Get the exact company name from the roofer's card or estimate.
- Find it on the city's Registered Contractor List under roofing.
- Call Building Inspections and Permits at 817-230-0453 to confirm, because the list is a snapshot.
- Ask who files the permit. Saginaw's permit forms include a roof category, and forms must be signed before the city accepts them.

No state license for roofers. Texas does not license roofing contractors. A 2025 bill that would have had the state license re-roofers (HB 3344) cleared a House committee but never got a floor vote, and it died when the session ended. That puts the checking on you: ask for a certificate of liability insurance sent to you by the roofer's insurance agent or insurer, a written contract that lists the full scope, the permit or contractor registration your city requires, addresses of nearby jobs, and proof the shingle warranty was registered. The line does none of this checking for you. How to check a roofer in Texas.

After a hail or wind event the questions are mostly the same: is there damage, is it worth a claim, and is it time for a whole new roof.

The first hour after hail in Saginaw
Keep both feet on the ground, and give any fallen wire a wide berth. Photograph hail on the ground before it melts, then dented gutters, vents and any ceiling stain inside. Write down the date and time. Call your insurance company to ask how wind and hail claims work on your policy and what your deductible is, then have a roofer look. Many roofers inspect storm damage at no charge; ask about that on the call.
Leave the roof to the roofer. A wet or storm-hit roof is slippery, and damaged decking can give way, so keep off it and keep the ladder put away. Stay clear of any downed power line and report it to Oncor or your local electric utility, or call 911. Inside, pull furniture and electronics away from the drip, set out a bucket or towels, and keep everyone out of a room where the ceiling is sagging. Take photos from the yard and from inside, then call your insurance company and a roofer.
Your deductible is yours to pay. The Texas Department of Insurance warns that a contractor may not waive your deductible, rebate it, or pad the estimate to cover it, and that a contract of $1,000 or more paid with insurance money must include a notice that you owe the deductible. Your insurer may ask for proof you paid it. A contractor also may not act as a public adjuster on a property it works on or may work on. If a roofer offers to "take care of" the deductible, hire someone else.
Hailstones in the yard, and no idea whether the shingles took a hit? Ring the line and tell it what the yard and ceilings look like. A Saginaw-area roofer then checks the roof up close and prices any work on paper.
