A dairy town on the edge of Eagle Mountain Lake
Azle straddles the Parker and Tarrant county line northwest of Fort Worth. It traces its start to 1846, when Dr. James Azle Steward settled here, and the town later took his middle name. Farms and dairies sold milk to Fort Worth creameries in the early 1900s, and the 2020 census counted 13,369 residents.
Just east of town, a dam on the West Fork of the Trinity River holds back Eagle Mountain Lake. The Tarrant Regional Water District owns and runs it. Construction ran from 1930 to 1932, and a 2018 state survey measured the lake at roughly 9,246 acres. Homes along its shore and on open acreage around Azle face storms with fewer trees and buildings to break the wind.

DFW Expert Roofers is not an Azle roofing contractor. It runs a free phone line: a recorded assistant answers, notes the trouble with your roof and connects you with an independent, locally owned roofer that works around Azle. That roofer sees the house, names its price and does the work, and you pay the roofer.
Azle leaves most roof checking to you

Shingles on a house: no permit
The city says replacing residential shingles does not require a permit. That also means no city inspector looks at the finished roof.
New decking: Miscellaneous Permit
If the whole roof deck is replaced, the roofer files a Miscellaneous Permit application with the city.
No roofer registry
Azle has no general contractor registration. Only trades such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing and backflow register.
Commercial roofing projects begin with an email to permits@cityofazle.org giving the address and a short description. The permit desk answers at 817-444-2541, extension 102.
Making the contract do the inspector's job
With no permit and no registry on a typical shingle job, the written agreement is your main protection in Azle. Before you sign, make sure it says:
- The old shingles come off completely, down to the deck.
- What underlayment goes on, and where ice and water membrane is used, if any.
- That drip edge, valley and wall flashing, pipe boots and vents are replaced or named as reused.
- The price per sheet for bad decking, and that you get photos of any replaced.
- Who files the Miscellaneous Permit if the whole deck has to be redone.
- The shingle's wind rating, and who registers the manufacturer warranty in your name.

No state license for roofers. Texas does not license roofing contractors. A 2025 bill that would have had the state license re-roofers (HB 3344) cleared a House committee but never got a floor vote, and it died when the session ended. That puts the checking on you: ask for a certificate of liability insurance sent to you by the roofer's insurance agent or insurer, a written contract that lists the full scope, the permit or contractor registration your city requires, addresses of nearby jobs, and proof the shingle warranty was registered. The line does none of this checking for you. How to check a roofer in Texas.
Roof work Azle owners ask about
Calls from here cover houses in town, lakeside homes and acreage with barns and shops, so metal roofing comes up next to shingle repairs and replacements.

Leave the roof to the roofer. A wet or storm-hit roof is slippery, and damaged decking can give way, so keep off it and keep the ladder put away. Stay clear of any downed power line and report it to your electric provider (Tri-County Electric Cooperative, 817-444-3201, or Oncor, depending on your bill), or call 911. Inside, pull furniture and electronics away from the drip, set out a bucket or towels, and keep everyone out of a room where the ceiling is sagging. Take photos from the yard and from inside, then call your insurance company and a roofer.
Your deductible is yours to pay. The Texas Department of Insurance warns that a contractor may not waive your deductible, rebate it, or pad the estimate to cover it, and that a contract of $1,000 or more paid with insurance money must include a notice that you owe the deductible. Your insurer may ask for proof you paid it. A contractor also may not act as a public adjuster on a property it works on or may work on. If a roofer offers to "take care of" the deductible, hire someone else.
Shingles lifting on a lake house, a leak over the garage, or an older roof you want looked at? Call and tell the assistant. A roofing company working in the Azle area comes to see it and puts its own price on paper.
