Horse Country, U.S.A., with new rooftops
Roofing in Aubrey, TX covers two very different kinds of property. The town calls itself Horse Country, U.S.A., and Aubrey ISD's history explains why: sandy, fertile land and a mild climate drew horse ranchers here long before the subdivisions came.
Then the subdivisions came. Aubrey counted 2,595 residents in the 2010 census and 5,006 in 2020, nearly double. Ray Roberts Dam, finished in 1986 on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, created the lake to the north, and large master-planned communities have filled in the land around town. Sandbrock Ranch alone was planned for about 2,600 homes on roughly 800 acres.
DFW Expert Roofers is a free phone line, not a contractor. It connects callers with an independent, locally owned roofing company that serves Aubrey, which inspects the roof, prices the work and files the city paperwork.

How Aubrey handles roof permits
- Roofing is a trade permit. Aubrey's building permit list groups roofing with electrical, HVAC and plumbing under one trade permit category.
- Everything goes by email. The city asks for the application and supporting documents as a single complete PDF sent to permitting@aubreytx.gov.
- Allow time for review. The city says plan reviews are typically finished in 10 to 14 business days, so a roofer who promises to start tomorrow should explain how the permit fits.
- The office has moved. In August 2026 the city said its Building Permits office is now at 510 Rockhill Road. Older forms still show the Main Street City Hall address.
The residential application says contractor registration is required at submittal for general, plumbing, electrical and mechanical contractors. It does not name roofers, so ask the city whether your roofer must register and ask the roofer to confirm it in writing.
Two kinds of Aubrey roof calls
Newer subdivision homes
Most roofs in the newer neighborhoods are architectural shingles that are only a few years old. The usual call is hail or wind damage, and the first questions are about warranties: the builder's, the shingle maker's and the installer's. Keep the closing paperwork handy, and check HOA rules on shingle colors before any replacement.
Ranch houses, barns and arenas
Horse properties bring metal roofs on barns and shelters, plus older homes with their own roof history. Tell the roofing company about every building you want looked at, and ask your insurance agent which structures your policy covers before you file.

What the storm record shows
Aubrey's storm history in public records is thin, and this page does not stretch it. Storm report listings show hail about 1.75 inches across, golf ball size, near Aubrey on April 8, 2024, and reports from 2025 describe heavy tree damage in town. Hail that size is large enough to bruise shingles and dent vents and gutters, so it is worth a look after any storm like it.
Leave the roof to the roofer. A wet or storm-hit roof is slippery, and damaged decking can give way, so keep off it and keep the ladder put away. Stay clear of any downed power line and report it to Oncor or your local electric utility, or call 911. Inside, pull furniture and electronics away from the drip, set out a bucket or towels, and keep everyone out of a room where the ceiling is sagging. Take photos from the yard and from inside, then call your insurance company and a roofer.

Questions for a roofer working in Aubrey
- Is my address inside Aubrey city limits, and who issues the permit?
- Have you sent the trade permit PDF to the city yet, and when do you expect it back?
- Does replacing this roof affect my builder or shingle warranty?
- Will you check the barn or outbuildings on the same visit?
- Which insurance company issues your liability certificate, so I can request it directly?
Your deductible is yours to pay. The Texas Department of Insurance warns that a contractor may not waive your deductible, rebate it, or pad the estimate to cover it, and that a contract of $1,000 or more paid with insurance money must include a notice that you owe the deductible. Your insurer may ask for proof you paid it. A contractor also may not act as a public adjuster on a property it works on or may work on. If a roofer offers to "take care of" the deductible, hire someone else.
No state license for roofers. Texas does not license roofing contractors. A 2025 bill that would have had the state license re-roofers (HB 3344) cleared a House committee but never got a floor vote, and it died when the session ended. That puts the checking on you: ask for a certificate of liability insurance sent to you by the roofer's insurance agent or insurer, a written contract that lists the full scope, the permit or contractor registration your city requires, addresses of nearby jobs, and proof the shingle warranty was registered. The line does none of this checking for you. How to check a roofer in Texas.
How the free line works
- Dial the lineAn automated assistant picks up (469) 649-7066 any time and asks what you need. The same number also takes air conditioning, heating and pressure washing calls, so say "roof".
- Tell it about the roofHail, a drip in the ceiling, shingles in the yard, a tree limb, or an aging roof you want checked, plus your town and how soon you need someone.
- Get transferredThe call goes to an independent roofing company that is locally owned and works in Dallas-Fort Worth. It hears a quick summary of your call before it answers.
- Work with that companyIt inspects, prices and does the job, and you pay it (or your insurer does, as you arrange). If it cannot pick up, it gets your name, number, town and need so it can call you back.
Hail on a new subdivision roof or wind damage out on the acreage? Call and describe it. A roofing company that serves Aubrey comes to look and writes down its own figures.
