A young town with a lot of young roofs
Prosper had fewer than 10,000 residents in the 2010 census and about 30,000 in 2020. The Town straddles western Collin County and eastern Denton County, and with the population tripling in ten years, a large share of its homes are recent builds.
Windsong Ranch alone was described in 2018 as a 2,030-acre master-planned development. Communities like it add new roofs a section at a time, picked by the builder and then governed by HOA rules for as long as the owner stays.
That does not make Prosper roofs safe from trouble. A roof only a few years old can still lose its granules to hail, and a builder's flashing detail can leak in a wind-driven rain. When roofing in Prosper TX turns into a question, DFW Expert Roofers is a free number to call. It is not a roofing company; it connects you with an independent, owner-run one that serves Prosper.

What the Town of Prosper checks on a re-roof
A registered contractor
All contractors must register with the Town. The fee ordinance lists an annual $100 registration fee.
A re-roof permit
Residential roof repair or replacement carries a $100 fee. The Town's monthly permit reports list many residential re-roofs.
Drip edge
The Town's re-roof sheet requires drip edge on every asphalt shingle roofing project.
An attic look at final
The building final includes the attic: vent penetrations through the roof and clearances around appliance vents.
The code edition
Work is checked against the 2021 International Residential Code and the Town's own amendments.
A clean jobsite
The final also confirms the roof is complete outside and that debris has been cleared away.
Inspection requests go in through the Citizens Self Service portal before the 7:00 AM cutoff on the day requested, and a failed inspection brings a reinspection fee that rises each time. A roofer who passes the first time saves everyone a day.

March 14, 2024: big hail on the county line
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, as reported by Fox 4, the largest hail from the storms of March 14, 2024 fell in Denton and Collin counties, with stones of roughly 1.5 to 3 inches near places including Prosper and Frisco. Cars had cracked windshields and roofs took a beating.
Stones that size can bruise shingles even on a new roof, and the damage is not always visible from the driveway. A roofer can check the shingles and, from inside the attic, look for decking damage or daylight.
If the next storm brings hail to your street, stay off the roof and keep your notes simple: the date, photos from the yard, and a list of what you see inside.
Leave the roof to the roofer. A wet or storm-hit roof is slippery, and damaged decking can give way, so keep off it and keep the ladder put away. Stay clear of any downed power line and report it to Oncor or CoServ, whichever serves your address (the Town lists outage numbers for both), or call 911. Inside, pull furniture and electronics away from the drip, set out a bucket or towels, and keep everyone out of a room where the ceiling is sagging. Take photos from the yard and from inside, then call your insurance company and a roofer.
Before a Prosper roofer starts work
- Ask for proof the company is registered with the Town of Prosper this year.
- Confirm who files the re-roof permit and how you will get the number.
- Look for drip edge and vent work in the written scope.
- Get the shingle brand, line and color in writing for your HOA.
- Ask how the roofer prices damaged decking and whether you see photos first.
- Request a liability insurance certificate from the roofer's insurer.
Your deductible is yours to pay. The Texas Department of Insurance warns that a contractor may not waive your deductible, rebate it, or pad the estimate to cover it, and that a contract of $1,000 or more paid with insurance money must include a notice that you owe the deductible. Your insurer may ask for proof you paid it. A contractor also may not act as a public adjuster on a property it works on or may work on. If a roofer offers to "take care of" the deductible, hire someone else.
No state license for roofers. Texas does not license roofing contractors. A 2025 bill that would have had the state license re-roofers (HB 3344) cleared a House committee but never got a floor vote, and it died when the session ended. That puts the checking on you: ask for a certificate of liability insurance sent to you by the roofer's insurance agent or insurer, a written contract that lists the full scope, the permit or contractor registration your city requires, addresses of nearby jobs, and proof the shingle warranty was registered. The line does none of this checking for you. How to check a roofer in Texas.
Hail dents on the gutters, a stain after rain, or an HOA form waiting on a shingle choice? Call and describe it. The Prosper-area roofer you are connected with comes out and prices the work in writing. Many roofers inspect without charge; ask when you talk.
How the line handles a Prosper call
- Dial the lineAn automated assistant picks up (469) 649-7066 any time and asks what you need. The same number also takes air conditioning, heating and pressure washing calls, so say "roof".
- Tell it about the roofHail, a drip in the ceiling, shingles in the yard, a tree limb, or an aging roof you want checked, plus your town and how soon you need someone.
- Get transferredThe call goes to an independent roofing company that is locally owned and works in Dallas-Fort Worth. It hears a quick summary of your call before it answers.
- Work with that companyIt inspects, prices and does the job, and you pay it (or your insurer does, as you arrange). If it cannot pick up, it gets your name, number, town and need so it can call you back.
About this line: DFW Expert Roofers is a free phone line, not a roofing contractor. It answers your call and connects you with an independent local roofing company, which inspects, quotes and does the work, and which you pay directly. Companies may pay a referral fee. Calling the line costs you nothing. See how a call is handled.
