Roofing in Celina, Texas

Celina has grown faster than any city its size, and in May 2024 a tornado showed how quickly a new neighborhood can lose its roofs. Call one free number, any hour, to reach an independent roofer that serves Celina.

The fastest-growing city of its size, roof by roof

Celina counted 16,739 people in the 2020 census. Census Bureau estimates then ranked it the fastest-growing U.S. city of 20,000 or more, first for 2020 to 2023 and again for 2024 to 2025, when it reached an estimated 64,427 residents.

Growth like that means a large share of Celina roofs are new, on homes in subdivisions such as Light Farms and Mustang Lakes near the Prosper line. New roofs still fail when a storm is strong enough, and Celina learned that in 2024.

For roofing in Celina TX, DFW Expert Roofers offers a free phone line. It is not a contractor. Your call is transferred to an independent, locally owned roofing company that serves Celina, and that company inspects and does the work.

May 25 and 26, 2024: one block, eight homes

Late on a Saturday night, a large storm crossed northern Collin County. On its southern edge, a smaller satellite tornado touched down in Celina. The National Weather Service survey rated it a high-end EF-3 with estimated winds of 165 mph, on a path about 0.71 miles long and up to 175 yards wide. The survey recorded no deaths or injuries.

Homes leveled

NBC DFW reported eight homes damaged on one Celina block, some of them leveled. Fox 4 reported multiple homes destroyed on Prairie Meadow Lane.

Firefighter row

Five of those eight homes belonged to Frisco firefighters, NBC DFW said. A family trapped in a pantry was dug out by neighbors.

Neighbors showed up

Close to 200 volunteers arrived the Monday morning after the storm to help clear debris, according to Fox 4.

Few storms are that violent, but the lesson applies to every storm: the hours after are when homeowners are most likely to sign with whoever arrives first. Keep the deductible law in mind and take time to compare.

Leave the roof to the roofer. A wet or storm-hit roof is slippery, and damaged decking can give way, so keep off it and keep the ladder put away. Stay clear of any downed power line and report it to your provider (the city lists CoServ, Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative and Oncor), or call 911. Inside, pull furniture and electronics away from the drip, set out a bucket or towels, and keep everyone out of a room where the ceiling is sagging. Take photos from the yard and from inside, then call your insurance company and a roofer.

Celina's roof permit and contractor registration

  1. The roofer registers. Every contractor working in the city must register before applying for permits. Residential registration and permits now run through the MGO Connect portal, which replaced MyGov for residential work in December 2025. Insurance must list the City of Celina as certificate holder, and a valid Texas driver's license is part of the file.
  2. Registration expires. It lasts 365 days at most, so a roofer that worked in Celina two years ago may not be current today.
  3. The permit request goes in. A roof permit is required for roofing projects. The registered general contractor files it with a Residential Minor Permit Application. The fee is $100 per request.
  4. The deck question. The application asks whether the roof deck is being replaced, so the roofer should know the deck's condition before applying.
  5. No registration, no inspection. The city says it will not issue permits or perform inspections for anyone without a current registration.

Your deductible is yours to pay. The Texas Department of Insurance warns that a contractor may not waive your deductible, rebate it, or pad the estimate to cover it, and that a contract of $1,000 or more paid with insurance money must include a notice that you owe the deductible. Your insurer may ask for proof you paid it. A contractor also may not act as a public adjuster on a property it works on or may work on. If a roofer offers to "take care of" the deductible, hire someone else.

Questions to ask before you sign in Celina

  • Is your City of Celina registration current, and when does it expire?
  • Will you file the roof permit, and is the $100 fee in your price?
  • Have you checked the decking, and how is replacement priced if you find more once the shingles are off?
  • Does my HOA need to approve the shingle first, and will you give me the product details in writing?
  • Will your insurer email me proof of liability coverage?

No state license for roofers. Texas does not license roofing contractors. A 2025 bill that would have had the state license re-roofers (HB 3344) cleared a House committee but never got a floor vote, and it died when the session ended. That puts the checking on you: ask for a certificate of liability insurance sent to you by the roofer's insurance agent or insurer, a written contract that lists the full scope, the permit or contractor registration your city requires, addresses of nearby jobs, and proof the shingle warranty was registered. The line does none of this checking for you. How to check a roofer in Texas.

Storm damage, a leak in a new house, or a roofer at the door you want to double-check? Call and explain. An independent roofing company that takes Celina calls looks at the roof and puts its estimate in writing. Many roofers inspect without charge; ask when you talk.

Celina roofing questions

Does Celina require a permit for a new roof?

Yes. The City of Celina's Building Services says a roof permit is required for roofing projects. The general contractor must be registered with the city and file a Residential Minor Permit Application with the request, and the fee is $100 per permit request. The form also asks whether the roof deck is being replaced, so expect your roofer to know that before it applies.

How do I check a Celina roofing contractor?

Ask whether the company has a current registration with the City of Celina. Contractors register online (the city moved residential permitting from MyGov to the MGO Connect portal in December 2025), list the City of Celina as certificate holder on their insurance, and renew at least every 365 days. Without a current registration, the city will not issue the permit or perform inspections. See checking a roofer in Texas for more.

Who do I call about a downed power line in Celina?

Stay well away from it and call 911 if it is sparking or blocking a road. Then report it to your electric provider. The city's outage page lists three that serve parts of Celina: CoServ, Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative and Oncor. Your bill names yours. CoServ customers can also text OUT to (855) 938-3496.

What should I do first if a storm tears up my Celina roof?

Get everyone safe, stay off the roof and away from lines, and take pictures of the damage from the yard and from inside. Move belongings away from leaks, call your insurer to start a claim, and have a roofing company cover open areas. The storm damage steps page has the full order.
